The 2018 NAfME National Conference will feature a performance by the ENMU Chamber Singers.

The Eastern New Mexico University Chamber Singers will perform before music educators, district arts supervisors and leaders in the music education profession from around the country at the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) National Conference in Dallas, Texas on Nov. 12.

This national event brings together pre-service and in-service music teachers and administrators for four days of professional development, during which these educators share best practices and learn from respected leaders in the profession about the latest innovative ideas in providing music education in every school. The ENMU Chamber Singers group is one of only seven high school and college-level student groups that will perform at the NAfME National Conference.

"We are very excited to be invited to perform at this prestigious event and look forward to singing for this audience of musicians. We also look forward to spending a full day immersed in the national conference, attending workshops and lectures by experts in the field," said Dr. Jason Paulk, professor of music and director of choral activities at ENMU. "In addition to our performance at the NAfME Conference, we also look forward to singing in school performances in Irving, Lubbock and Levelland."

The theme of the 2018 NAfME National Conference, taking place from Nov. 11-14, is "Amplify: Lead. Engage. Inspire." Music educators will take a deep dive into leading topics in music education.

Formatted into five different "Opuses," or learning tracks, educators will learn the latest ideas in teaching students 21st-century skills through music education, preparing all students, regardless of background or socioeconomic status, to be leaders in whatever profession they pursue.

The five Opuses are:

  • Amplify: Learning – Teaching Music as a Well-Rounded Subject
  • Amplify: Innovation – Cultivating Innovative Music-Making
  • Amplify: Involvement – Engaging Diversity in Music-Making & Teaching
  • Amplify: Inspiration – Inspiring Students through Music Creativity
  • Amplify: Technology – Teaching the Tech-Savvy Generation
